A clean division of labor keeps a submission on schedule. Your team owns the science and the facts; I deliver the structure, compliance, and scoring strategy. This checklist lays out exactly what I'll need from you, so nothing stalls the work, and exactly what I author from it.
Federal registrations are the most common cause of a missed deadline. Registrations run four to six weeks, in sequence, and nobody can expedite them. I'll guide every step, but only your firm can execute and certify these.
Mismatched names or a late UEI are the two errors that most often sink an otherwise-fundable application.
DoD submits through DSIP as separate volumes: cover sheet, technical, cost, commercialization report, supporting documents, and Fraud/Waste/Abuse training. DOE SBIR requires a mandatory Letter of Intent several weeks before the full application; no LOI on file means no review. DOE NOFOs run through NETL eXCHANGE, with their own gates: the right topic area, a letter of intent from an industry partner where site access is required, and a cost share commitment letter at submission. I manage all three timelines. Just know the clocks start at different points.
Every solicitation differs, and the fastest way to be disqualified is to miss one of its specific format rules. I always build to the live BAA, FOA, or NOFO, never a template. (SBIR/STTR was reauthorized through 2031; the rules keep evolving, and I track them.)
On the DoD side, third-party audits were suspended in July 2026, but a self-assessment can still gate an award. Read About CMMC →
